About the Item

A charming and finely detailed 19th-century Black Forest–style hand-carved tobacco jar. Entirely carved from wood and executed with remarkable depth and texture. A rare large size tobacco jar. At the top of the jar sits a mother hen, protecting her two frightened chicks pressed close beneath her. Her feathers are carved with delicate precision, each stroke capturing the alert tension of a bird defending her young. Underneath the barrel, a sleek ferret emerges from the side, stretching forward with predatory intent. The dynamic interplay between predator and protector transforms the jar into a vivid narrative sculpture. The entire scene is set atop a sturdy carved barrel, its staves and iron banding rendered with convincing texture, grounding the composition with rustic charm. The lid lifts cleanly to reveal the hollow interior, originally intended for storing tobacco but equally suitable as a collector’s object or decorative accent today. Beautifully patinated and exceptionally carved, this Black Forest tobacco jar is both a functional piece and a striking example of 19th-century folk artistry, capturing nature, drama, and craftsmanship in a single expressive work. This Black forest collectable comes with free shipping from Amsterdam to you in 7 days.
