A fine and unusual silver plate and shagreen cigarette case. Shagreen was a popular but rare material used in the 19th century on certain fine pieces, such as clocks and cases. Its beguiling texture is of leather-like softness punctuated by delicate dappled marks. Shagreen is a natural hide, typically from shark or stingray.
