Rare Form with Chinoiserie Figures
From our Tea Caddy collection, we are delighted to introduce to the market this rare example Russian Silver Chinoiserie Tea Caddy. The Tea Caddy of square form with rounded corners is cast in solid Russian silver and extensively engraved to the exterior with Chinoiserie scenes. Each panel features a scene with figures in various locations. Each scene is beautifully bordered by a complex border with interlinked scrollwork and a top circular central vacant initial plaque. When opened the Tea Caddy interior reveals a thick lining of silver gilt to protect the tea from any contamination. The Russian Silver Chinoiserie Tea Caddy is hallmarked silver by Alexander Sergeyev Yegrov of Moscow with the assay mark for Victor Savinsky dating to the late 19th century Circa 1885.

Chinoiserie is a decorative style in Western art, furniture, and architecture that was undertaken particularly in the 18th century. It is characterised by the use of Chinese motifs and techniques hence the name Chinoiserie.
