The motifs of this pair of French bronze and marble candelabras are in the style of Egyptian Revival. Notice how the three foliate bobeches rest atop a pair of ibis, which in ancient Egypt symbolized wisdom and communication. Additional Egyptian motifs include several ankhs (in hieroglyphics means “life”), other stylized hieroglyphs, and a pair of asps with rosettes on top of their heads.
