A whimsical and sculptural silver-plated candlestick designed and handcrafted in Taxco, Mexico by celebrated artist Emilia Castillo, renowned for her distinctive blend of natural motifs and fine metalwork. Dating to the mid–1980s, this striking piece features a stylized toucan perched at the base, expertly crafted in solid brass then silver plated, with the bird’s head and beak inlaid in onyx and other natural stones—a hallmark of Castillo’s organic, nature-driven design language.
The frame showcases twisted silver-plated columns, a hammered base, and circular decorative elements that echo Emilia’s signature handcrafted aesthetic. The piece retains its original Emilia Castillo hallmark, reading:
“Emilia Castillo – Mexico – M.R. TO-85 – Plateado – #1”
