About the Item

Italian Empire sterling silver 5-light candelabrum. Raised socket on ovoid shaft to which are mounted four leaf-mounted arms terminating in same. Sockets bellied on wax pan. Shaft mounted to figural gryphon support in turn mounted to stepped rectangular base with applied scroll and acanthus leaf border and four paw supports. Arms and shaft fluted and leaf-wrapped. Beaded, leaf-and-dart, and egg-and-dart borders. Based on invigorated Classicism from two centuries ago. A hard-to-find solo stick that’s guaranteed to shine bright. Fully marked including post 1967 maker’s stamp (1002 MI) and phrase “Lavoraz a Mano” (that is, handmade). Heavy weight: 78.5 troy ounces.
