About the Item
This rare sculptural candlestick holder combines solid oak columns with folded brass elements, creating a rhythmic, architectural form typical of Swedish mid-century modernism. The contrast between the warm wood and the softly patinated brass gives the piece a balanced, graphic expression. Designed to hold four candles, the zigzagging brass base connects the individual holders into a single, cohesive object.
The candlestick was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced in Sweden during the 1950s, a period when Jakobsson explored the interplay between natural materials and refined metalwork. While he is best known for his lighting designs, his smaller decorative objects share the same focus on proportion, material quality, and restrained modernist form.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER:
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a Swedish designer best known for his lighting designs produced in Markaryd from the 1950s onwards. His work is closely associated with Scandinavian modernism and is characterized by a sensitive use of materials, particularly brass, wood, and perforated metal. Jakobsson’s designs emphasize warm, atmospheric light and carefully considered form, and today his work is widely collected as an important part of Swedish mid-century design heritage.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson
Hans-Agne Jakobsson was a Swedish interior and furniture designer, who ran his own company from 1951. Jakobsson was especially famous for his lighting designs, which often had a softly glowing light and organic shape. His designs were inspired by great, modern Scandinavian designers such as the Finnish icon Alvar Aalto and Danish lighting master Poul Henningsen.
