A stunning pair of largeFrench 19th century Louis XVI Style ormolu and cut rock crystal 5 arm candelabras. These exceptional pieces embody the refined neoclassical aesthetic of the Second Empire, marrying classical form with opulent materials to striking effect.
Each candelabra features a central knopped shaft from which five elegantly scrolled ormolu arms extend, adorned with festooned garlands and culminating in foliate candle holders with finely chased bobeches. The structural core is enriched with baluster and disc-form rock crystal elements, encased in fluted ormolu and accented with classical gilt collars. Sparkling pendants—teardrop, drop, and faceted ball forms—suspend delicately from the arms and bobeches, connected by bronze pins and linking crystal beads.
The tripartite bases rest on three boldly scrolled feet adorned with floral garlands and volutes, rising to a paneled plinth embellished with gilt reliefs of musical instruments, foliage, and drapery swags. The ormolu mounts are crisply cast and retain their original luminous gilding, while the use of rock crystal—highly prized in 19th-century Parisian decorative arts—speaks to the luxurious nature of their intended setting.
