About the Item

A beautiful and very large pair of Meiji period Japanese bronze vases with brown patina and caved design with applied gilt and silver bronze inserts representing birds and insects flying among peonies and chrysanthemums ("shakudo" / 赤銅). The vases are mounted with late 19th century mounts and a removable candlestick mounts holding 6 candles per bunch, all in gilt metal with great detailing, in the manner of Maison Giroux or Escalier de Cristal., in the japonism / aesthetic style. Total height: 71 cm. Vase alone: 39 cm. Provenance: a 19th century villa in Cannes. A detailed certificate will be provided to the buyer.
