Pair of Empire-period Victory candelabra in marble and gilt bronze, c. 1800 This elegant pair of Empire-period candelabra, dating from around 1800, combines the noble materials of marble and finely worked gilt bronze. Each piece is surmounted by a beautifully modeled winged Victory, a central motif of Neoclassical symbolism, representing triumph and glory. The figures hold aloft delicately chiseled candle branches, their surfaces enriched with intricate palmette decoration, emblematic of the Empire style.
