Harald Linder (1880–1945) was a Swedish goldsmith, silversmith, and pewter designer whose work came to embody the elegance and craftsmanship of early 20th-century Scandinavian metal art. Born in Luleå in northern Sweden, Linder grew up in a family of jewellers and was introduced early to the precision and artistry of metalwork. After moving to Uddevalla around 1910, he took over a goldsmith’s business and soon expanded into broader forms of metal design.
Around 1911–1912, Linder founded A-B Svensk Metallkonst in Uddevalla, a company that would become well known for its refined craftsmanship and artistic sensibility. The workshop initially produced pieces in copper, brass, and nickel silver before turning its focus to pewter — a material that allowed for both sculptural expression and everyday functionality. During the 1920s and 1930s, the firm flourished, opening branches in Gothenburg and Stockholm, and creating everything from candlesticks and bowls to ceremonial and ecclesiastical objects.
Linder’s designs were characterized by a harmonious blend of form and function, often showing clean lines and subtle ornamentation that reflected the ideals of Swedish modernism. His pewter pieces, usually marked with “H. Linder”, were admired for their balance between simplicity and detail, and they remain highly valued among collectors today. Under his leadership, the company also collaborated with artists such as Ivar Johnsson, whose pewter altar jug exhibited at the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930 drew critical praise and international attention.
Honoured as a royal purveyor to the Swedish court, Harald Linder built a reputation for quality and taste that extended well beyond Sweden. After his death in 1945, the business was continued by his family and remained active until 1992, when production finally ceased and the old pewter moulds were sold.
Today, Harald Linder’s name stands as a hallmark of Swedish craftsmanship — representing a bridge between traditional metalwork and the modern design ideals that came to define Scandinavian aesthetics in the 20th century. His pewter objects, with their timeless forms and meticulous finish, continue to tell the story of an artist who turned everyday metal into enduring art.
Edvin Ollers (originally Olsson) was born March 28, 1888 in Norrtälje. He was a Swedish artist and designer.
Ollers studied at the Högre konstindustriella skolan (Higher School of Art and Design) in Stockholm from 1905 to 1909, and at the Gothenburg Museum of Drawing and Painting (Valand Academy of the Arts) in Gothenburg 1909 to 1910. He was a drawing teacher at Östra Real in Stockholm between 1910 and 1916 and an assistant teacher at the Tekniska skolan (Technical School) in Stockholm from 1911 to 1943.
He was a multi-talented designer and artist and designed glass, ceramics, tin, silver, cast iron objects and illustrations, bookbinding and textiles alongside his painting. He became one of the first Swedish art industry designers. As a teacher and art educator, he was an aesthetic educator. In 1919, Gotthard Johansson described him as ‘one of the most thoroughly cultivated artists’. One of his great interests was to study Museums' older collections and their design language. This is reflected in his design, which bears clear traces of older Swedish traditions.
In 1941, Ollers started a private painting school on the island of Gullholmen in Bohuslän in Orust municipality outside Lysekil, He ran a painting school in the summer. In 1946 he became a vocational teacher at the Konstfackskolan (School of Art) in Stockholm. For a long period, up until 1950, Ollers also worked in tin for Schreuder
Olsson, and in silver with for GAB (Guldsmedsaktiebolaget - a Swedish manufacturer of cutlery in silver and nickel silver in Eskilstuna).
His cool Cézanne-inspired painting include still lifes, southern landscapes and scenes from Bohuslän.
Oller’s work is represented in numerous collections including work at the National Museum in Stockholm, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the Statens museum for Kunst in Copenhagen, the Nordic Museum in Stockholm, Stockholm City Museum, Uppland Museum in Uppsala, Uppsala Art Museum, Röhsska Art Craft Museum in Gothenburg, Småland Museum/Swedish Glass Museum/Kulturpark in Växjö, Kulturen in Lund, Östergötland County Museum in Linköping, Norrköping Art Museum, Jönköping county museum, Glasets Hus in Limmared, Malmöhus, Kalmar Art Museum and The Glass Factory, Boda glasbruk.
Ollers passed away at the age of 71 on December 2, 1959 in Stockholm. He is buried at Skogskyrkogården in Stockholm.
