About the Item
Dutch brass Hanukkah lamps like this one were made in the 17th century for the common Jewish household as most were accustomed to owning brass Hanukkah lamps.
Hanukkah lamp features an openwork backplate and side panels both surmounted with stylized fleur de lys and pierced with quatrefoil designs.
At the center, a blank square cartouche meant for dedications and biblical verses to be engraved or etched into.
Eight lower rectangular-shaped oil wells made in one cast with pointed spouts is affixed to the side panels, back plate, and rectangular drip pan.
A circular hole purposely pierced into the top of the backplate was made for hanging purposes as was the custom to hang the Hanukkah lamp outside each person's household on each night of Hanukkah.
