About the Item
A very decorative, authentic French Napoleon III church wall sconce, also called harvest candelabra. This is an unusual, large wall sconce model made for 7 candles. Made of brass and gilded metal it dates from the late 19th century. It feature 20 delicate lilies, in two different sizes, and foliage. Sourced in the wine country of Alsace, France, it even features a grape leaf. The wall sconce was most likely gifted to a church from a wealthy parishioner as thanks for a good grape harvest. There are two holes in the steam for easy wall hanging. The wall sconce has not been polished, only very roughly cleaned.
In fair vintage condition, all pieces are original and no repaires have been made. However, some of its more delicate pieces are missing: one branch/flower is missing on the upper right side, another flower is missing its pistil and some others are missing a stamen or two (see photos). Two of the flowers are a bit darker in color compared to the others. The wall sconce has at some point in time been prepared for electric wiring: small holes have been made in the 7 drip pans (see photos). However, the nozzles have not been changed or altered, they are still made for candles.
