About the Item
Pair of ceramic wall-mounted candle sconces designed by Noomi Backhausen and Poul Brandborg for Søholm Stentøj as part of the Erika series, Denmark, early 1970s. Handcrafted in glazed stoneware with soft earthy tones and a matte finish, the forms combine a sculptural folk sensibility with clean, modernist lines.
Each piece is decorated with an abstract organic motif - a hallmark of Backhausen’s and Brandborg’s collaborative work - and fitted with an integrated candle cup. The back plates are marked with the Søholm stamp and model number 3220, and both retain their original foil labels.
This pair captures the essence of Scandinavian mid-century ceramic design: handcrafted yet modern, decorative yet functional. Their warm glazes and rhythmic forms bring quiet mood and texture to a wall - equally at home in a pared-down modern interior or among more eclectic vintage pieces.
• Height 26 cm (10.24 in), Width 15 cm (5.9 in), Depth 5 cm (1.97 in)
• Hand-painted and glazed stoneware
• Period: 1970s
• Model 3220, marked and labeled
• Made in Denmark
• Excellent vintage condition with light wear consistent with age
ABOUT THE DESIGNERS:
