About the Item
This is a rare and impressive pair of hand-carved and gilded floor candleholders. The bold 19th century Baroque carving is authentic in style. The heavy tripod base with foliate scrolls keeps the candlesticks steady on the floor. At one time, the iron pricketts were cut off to simplify the selection of candles. Age and wear shows in a few missing chips of the gilding and gesso. An old label indicates the country of origin.
