About the Item

Wonderful Berlin Iron Candlestick by the iron foundry A.M.Nachf. - "Kunst- Eisen- und Zink-Giesserei von Albert Meves" (1844 - 1867), Berlin. On a decorative base with four feet can be found rich ornaments, such as a mens face on each feet. At the bottom are four stamps "Berlin", "A.M.Nachf.", "Geschützt", "7389". Albert Anton Meves, born in 1812, became a partner in the foundry of G.A. Schwan in Berlin in 1837 and founded his own bronze and iron foundry there in 1844. Meves produced a variety of ornamental objects in the electric style, typical of the mid-19th century. From 1850 Meves gradually switched production from iron to zinc. Since 1867 the stamp "A.M. Nachf." was used. Similar candlesticks of Berlin iron can be found in the specialized literature: "European Cast Iron, Birmingham Museum of Art – Anne Forschler-Tarrasch“, page 297.
