About the Item

An attractive and high quality pair of French early 19th century 1st Empire Period patinated Bronze and Ormolu candlesticks, circa 1805. This wonderful pair of ewer designed candlesticks are raised by square mottled Ormolu plinths below a square patinated Bronze taped pedestal. Two sides of the pedestal are decorated by Ormolu mounts of a tambourine, a torch with the eternal flame, and a club all hanging from a bow. The other two sides displays floral wreaths with crossed arrows. Above stands each ewer with a circular mottled socle below the reeded bottom of the ewer and patinated Bronze body. The upper portion of the ewer displays a lattice design below an elongated egg and dart designed band. The ewer has a scrolled handle with a bottom lion head while the top has a bird like face. The spout of the ewer is elegantly decorated by a front seashell.
