About the Item
Striking French Art Deco ceramic double candlestick in oxblood burgundy glaze, with geometric stepped form and gilt accents; designed for two candles, circa 1930s.
This striking Art Deco double candlestick exemplifies the bold geometry and refined ornamentation of French decorative ceramics from the interwar period. Executed in richly glazed ceramic, the piece features a deep oxblood-red surface accented with crisp gilt highlights that emphasize its stepped, architectural profile.
The form is defined by a symmetrical, sweeping double arm rising from a layered square base, a composition characteristic of late-1920s and early-1930s French Art Deco design. Subtle tiered elements and sharp transitions between planes give the object a strong sculptural presence, while the contrast between the glossy glaze and gilded edges adds visual depth and elegance.
A small opening in the base suggests the piece was originally conceived as a wall appliqué or with the option for electrification—an approach frequently employed in French decorative objects of the period—though it now functions beautifully as a standalone decorative candlestick.
Elegant yet graphic, this piece works equally well in a classic Art Deco interior, a Hollywood Regency setting, or as a statement accent in a contemporary space. Its saturated color, architectural silhouette, and refined craftsmanship make it a distinctive and highly decorative example of French Deco design.

Spanish Revival Mid-Century Benlloch Manises Ceramic Table Lamp
By Manuel Benlloch
Located in AMSTERDAM, NL
Meticulously hand-crafted by Amitābha Studio from a vintage Manuel Benlloch Manises vase, this table lamp captures the spirit of Spanish Revival design. The tall, hexagonal base is finished in an ivory crackle glaze, a hallmark of Benlloch wares, and painted freehand in a bold palette of cobalt blue, rust-orange, and cream. Its rich patterning draws on Spain’s historic Hispano-Moresque and Mudéjar traditions, translated here into a vibrant mid-century ceramic form.
Each of the six faces is framed by cobalt ribs and filled with repeating ogee arches, lattice lozenges, and scrolling arabesques. The rhythmic interplay of color and geometry creates a bold yet refined surface, perfectly balancing ornament and structure. The underside bears the hand-painted signature “Benlloch España,” affirming its authenticity as a product of this renowned Manises workshop, active across three generations in the 20th century.
To echo the vase’s architectural silhouette, Amitābha Studio has paired the base with a new bespoke hexagonal lampshade. Crafted in warm Dupion silk in tones of orange, peach, and gold, the fabric’s natural texture harmonizes with the arabesques on the ceramic. A Houlès passementerie trim completes the design, while the shade’s golden glow enhances the lamp’s sculptural presence when illuminated.

European Contemporary Red Sculptural Candlestick by Margit Wittig
By Margit Wittig
Located in London, GB
Margit Wittig has used her sculptural skills to create beautifully-crafted, well-proportioned candlesticks, which are compositions of her unique signature pearl-shaped designs.
Each candlestick begins as hand-sculpted spheres which are used to create moulds in three sizes. Margit refers to these finished spheres as pearls. These highly original, eye-catching candlesticks come in three different sizes depending on the number of pearls: three, five and seven.
The candlesticks are cast in resin and Jesmonite mixed with pigment at the start of the process, to ensure color consistency. Some of the candlesticks are subtly finished with hand painted gold patina to reflect the shimmer of the candle. Each one is made with a solid brass drip catcher and can be cast in a variety of colors.
Working from her studio in London, as well as candlesticks, Margit creates artistic lighting...
