About the Item

A vibrant Mid-Century Dutch candlestick with bold Art Deco Revival motifs and striking multicolor hand-painted decoration. This Mid-Century Dutch Art Deco Revival candlestick has the visual bravado associated with early to mid 20th-century European decorative ceramics—bold color, curving silhouettes, and a touch of theatrical flourish. The form is sinuous and sculptural, with a subtly dancing profile that blends Art Nouveau softness with the sculptural confidence that carried into the Art Deco period. The hand-painted decoration is a standout feature. Swirling, cloud-like patches of burnt orange, cobalt blue, creamy white, and pale turquoise are separated by raised tube-lined outlines, a hallmark technique of Gouda pottery. Tube-lining gives each color its own contained cell, creating an effect reminiscent of stained glass translated into ceramic form. The deep black glaze on the neck, top, and foot provides dramatic contrast that pushes the piece decisively toward an Art Deco Revival aesthetic. Marked on the base with the Regina Rosaria and Gouda-Holland signatures, the candlestick is an authentic example of the expressive, hand-decorated ceramic ware for which Gouda potteries became renowned. Joyfully abstract and richly colored, it functions as both a collectible ceramic and a striking decorative accent for Mid-Century, Art Deco, and eclectic interiors. In excellent condition with expected light wear, it remains a vibrant piece of Dutch modernist pottery with undeniable sculptural presence.

Spanish Revival Mid-Century Benlloch Manises Ceramic Table Lamp
By Manuel Benlloch
Located in AMSTERDAM, NL
Meticulously hand-crafted by Amitābha Studio from a vintage Manuel Benlloch Manises vase, this table lamp captures the spirit of Spanish Revival design. The tall, hexagonal base is finished in an ivory crackle glaze, a hallmark of Benlloch wares, and painted freehand in a bold palette of cobalt blue, rust-orange, and cream. Its rich patterning draws on Spain’s historic Hispano-Moresque and Mudéjar traditions, translated here into a vibrant mid-century ceramic form. Each of the six faces is framed by cobalt ribs and filled with repeating ogee arches, lattice lozenges, and scrolling arabesques. The rhythmic interplay of color and geometry creates a bold yet refined surface, perfectly balancing ornament and structure. The underside bears the hand-painted signature “Benlloch España,” affirming its authenticity as a product of this renowned Manises workshop, active across three generations in the 20th century. To echo the vase’s architectural silhouette, Amitābha Studio has paired the base with a new bespoke hexagonal lampshade. Crafted in warm Dupion silk in tones of orange, peach, and gold, the fabric’s natural texture harmonizes with the arabesques on the ceramic. A Houlès passementerie trim completes the design, while the shade’s golden glow enhances the lamp’s sculptural presence when illuminated. This Spanish Revival lamp...
