About the Item
A pair of Australian copper and brass candlestick holders made by Soho Foundry of Sovereign Hill, Ballarat, Victoria, circa 1970. Decoratively turned central columns support a simple capital and wax pan, with a water-rippled beveled base. The bases are marked "Soho Foundry. Sovereign Hill Ballarat."
The Soho Foundry in Ballarat was established around about 1856 by Robinson, Thomas
Co. The Soho Works employed iron and brass founders, boiler makers, pattern makers and engineers, and was involved in repairing cast iron machinery and engines. Today a new Soho Foundry in the same location has metal-spinning and wood-turning artisans.
