About the Item

Charming Pair of Karl Johan Birch Candlesticks, Sweden, 1820s Elegant pair of candlesticks from Sweden, crafted in beautifully turned birch with contrasting ebonized accents and removable brass sconces. Dating from the Karl Johan period (the Swedish interpretation of the Empire style), circa 1820–1830s, these pieces exemplify the refined yet restrained aesthetics of early 19th-century Scandinavian neoclassicism. The softly tapering column and wide base are characteristic of the period, while the warm birch wood offers both sculptural grace and subtle luster. The brass inserts are functional as well as decorative, providing a pleasing contrast in both texture and tone. A fine example of early 19th-century Swedish craftsmanship – ideal for both classical and modern interiors. Wear consistent with age and use.
