About the Item

A tall and beautifully detailed French brass altar candlestick from the late 19th century, crafted during the Victorian era (known in France as the Belle Époque). This classic ecclesiastical piece features a three-sided hollow base with ornate Baroque-style cast reliefs. Each side showcases an oval, wreath-framed cameo of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus—making it visually striking from every angle. Above the base, a fluted Neoclassical column rises to support an urn-shaped candle socket. The wide rim of the urn acts as a wax-catching bobèche, adding both function and elegance. Originally designed for church use, the candlestick carries sacred motifs but can also lend dramatic character to modern interiors. Whether illuminating a grand dining table, flanking a mantel, or glowing softly on a sideboard with electric candles and small lampshades, it offers timeless presence and patina. Dimensions: Height: 14 inches Base Depth: 6 inches Fits standard 7/8" taper candles Very good antique condition with age-appropriate wear and a rich patina.
