About the Item

Georgian mahogany candle stand The circular, dished top to an adjustable turned and knopped stem with turned thumb screw, to a finely turned, weighted base. Stand can be adjusted to alter the height of the light from a candlestick placed on top. Of fine colour and patination. English, circa 1760-1800 When working by candlelight these stands were designed to get the light to the correct height to throw the light to be able to read, write, or at the dining table.
