About the Item

An Unusual Pair of Italian Murano Gold Speckled Flower Form Candlesticks Each candlestick is composed entirely of hand-blown Murano glass with a rich infusion of gold inclusions, creating a translucent amber tone throughout the surface. The form rises from a wide circular foot supported on three clear glass pad feet, leading into a baluster-shaped stem that alternates between rounded and elongated segments. Each section is defined by subtle ridges and applied glass collars, giving structural rhythm to the tall, tapering profile. The gold speckling, characteristic of avventurina glass, distributes evenly across the form, producing a warm and reflective effect under light. At the midpoint, each stem features a bulbous knop decorated with clear applied rosettes and small leaf-like projections, adding texture to the smooth surface. Above this, the shaft narrows before widening into a broad drip pan formed as an open flower with clear petal rims. The upper section continues into a flared candle nozzle, its scalloped edge repeating the floral motif seen below. The uniform construction and seamless transitions between the sections display the high technical skill of Murano glassmaking, where each component is shaped and joined while still molten. The pair demonstrates a refined balance of proportion and craftsmanship typical of mid-20th-century Venetian glass. The incorporation of gold dust within the glass matrix, a traditional Murano technique perfected over generations, enhances both the color and visual depth of the material.
