Elegant, inventive, and enduringly modern, this rare modular brass candleholder set was designed by renowned Swedish metalsmith Lars Holmström and produced in Sweden during the 1920s. The design is part of Holmström’s celebrated Margareta series and showcases the innovative spirit of early Scandinavian functionalism.
Each of the five solid brass segments features dual arms joined by precision-engineered hinges, allowing the structure to be flexibly arranged into a variety of shapes—from elongated lines to expressive zigzags or sculptural stars. Lars August Holmström was born in 1894 in Gävleborg County and died in Båstad. He was a Swedish mid-century art smith. Holmström participated in the Paris Exhibition and hit here with candlesticks and chandeliers and also with silver work. He is mentioned in French art magazines, where his work is referred to as a masterpiece of art.
