About the Item

This matched pair of faience lion candleholders, crafted circa 1880 by the renowned French artist Émile Gallé, exemplifies the bold spirit and refined artistry of late 19th-century decorative arts. Each majestic lion, rendered with expressive detail and vibrant glaze, stands proudly—both ornamental and symbolic, reflecting Gallé’s early experimentation with form and color before his celebrated Art Nouveau period. Signed Gallé and Nancy at the base, affirming their authenticity and origin. Documented in the exhibition catalogue Gallé, Musée du Luxembourg, 29 November 1985 – 2 February 1986 (see photos for reference). A rare and distinguished addition to any serious collection of French ceramics or decorative arts. Take into account that the colors on the items may vary depending on the type of lighting and the type of screen from which you see the images.
