Pair of 19th Century Bronze Japanese Shokudai Candle Stands. Cast in a bronze alloy, this pair of candle stands is an example of traditional Japanese metalwork. The well-proportioned stand is quite tall, stabilized by a heavy bronze base plate. A flower-form base secures each rod, and at the top, the pricket emerges from a traditional shallow dish.

Two tall candlesticks, hand-crafted in bronze, circa 1880. Japan, Meiji Period.
The base measures 10.25 inches, the height is 29 inches. The top circle plate measures 5 inches, with an inner ring for a 2-inch candle. Both have a patina developed by time and nature. One of the candlesticks' base is slightly bent, most probably by age and use, but it does not affect its stability.
