About the Item

This tall and decorative pair of antique candlesticks was hand-carved in France circa 1780 in the Louis XV style. Each piece features a richly ornamented front with fluted columns, stylized acanthus leaves, and gadrooned detailing, resting on a scrolling tripod base with volutes and foliate carvings. The rear sides are flatter and more plainly finished, suggesting they were designed to stand against a wall or within an architectural niche, as was typical for ecclesiastical furnishings of the period. Retaining their original gilt finish, the stands exhibit an appealing aged patina with surface wear, stable cracks, and oxidation consistent with their devotional use. The scalloped drip pans and carved candle prickets remain intact. Dramatic and imposing at 45.5 inches tall, they are ideal as altar-style decor, statement floor candlesticks, or re-imagined as custom lamp bases. Dimensions: 45.5” high x 10” wide x 10” deep.
