About the Item
Pair of 18th century Italian mecca carved figurative candleholders on rutile in a crystal quartz matrix. The pair originally come from a historic church in Italy. They are thought to have been part of a group of other figurative candleholders that depicted the twelve diciples. Rutilated quartz is a rare type of quartz that contains inclusions of rutile which look like gold needles intersecting through the crystal quartz.
The pair of Italian fragment artifacts transformed by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture and period shows that the Italian candlesticks are originally 18th century. They are mounted on the rutilated quartz to create a historical, sculptural, decorative pair of organic and old.
