About the Item
Two copper candlesticks of typical ottoman form with turned stems on a stepped and tapered base. Each base rises to a flared bobèche (a drip tray to collect melted wax).
Made in the 19th century, based on 15th and 16th century designs, when this spare and refined style developed, with a taste for plainer, more understated work prevailing as opposed to the richly adorned and decorated work more commonly associated with Ottoman Islamic art.
