An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique Irish cast sterling silver candlesticks; an addition to our antique silverware collection
These exceptional antique cast Irish sterling silver candlesticks have a simplified classic 18th century form onto a spreading incurved base.
The plain cylindrical capitals are encircled with bands of tooled decoration and retain the original hallmarked detachable push fit sconces.
The upper portion of the waisted shaped column features a panelled quatrefoil shaped knop embellished with lobed incurved designs to each corner.
Each panelled column is further ornamented with a plain circular knop to the lower portion.
The incurved stepped base of each candlestick has a plain collet style rim.
The sunken well of each base is embellished with an impressive contemporary engraved crest of a crescent between two laurel branches.
Such cast examples of this period are uncommon and indicate the high quality of the pair; these candlesticks are the finest examples of their type you could hope to acquire.
Condition
These antique 20th century silver candlesticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
Full Irish hallmarks struck to the surface of each base and the sleeve of each sconce are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

The plain cylindrical capital of each silver candlestick is plain and encircled with an applied moulded border to the rim.
The capitals retain the original hallmarked push fit sconces, ornamented to the rim with chased leaf decoration.
The waisted column of each candlestick is embellished with chased leaf decoration to a large compressed circular knop, in addition to leaf motifs enveloping the lower portion.
