About the Item

This pair of candlesticks was made in the 19th century, around the 1870s. Each candlestick is designed as a female statue inspired by classical antique art. The two figures are not identical. Each woman has a different pose, facial expression, and position of the arms, which makes the pair more interesting and lively. One figure gently bends her head, while the other stands more upright, creating a natural contrast between them. The bronze has a warm brown patina that clearly shows the fine details of the sculptures. Special attention is given to the faces, hair, hands, and the soft folds of the dresses. The statues stand on solid truncated conical bases made of Turkish beu marble. The bases are finished with a decorative beaded edge in gilded bronze. The candle holders on top are also in gilded bronze. The pair is in good condition and is a beautiful example of 19th century decorative bronze work.
