About the Item
A fine pair of gilt-bronze candlesticks from the early Republic Period, each raised on four splayed legs supporting a square plinth base. Rising from the base, the stem is pierced with a stylized openwork design evocative of traditional Chinese characters or auspicious motifs, creating a sense of balance and symmetry. The stem leads to a wide drip pan with scalloped edges, supporting a cylindrical candleholder fitted with an internal pricket.
The gilt finish, now showing natural wear consistent with age and ritual use, adds warmth and elegance to the overall design. The stylized geometric and curvilinear openwork reflects both symbolic decoration and practical craftsmanship, making these candlesticks suitable for both temple and domestic altars.
Condition: Good overall with expected surface wear, small casting irregularities, and minor rubbing to gilding, particularly around the drip pans and edges. Structurally sound, with a pleasing aged patina.
