About the Item
French Empire ormolu candlesticks of outstanding quality. Set on a circular base with unusually a decorated band around the top outside edge of the base comprising dots within diamonds. Within this is a gadrooned moulding leading to the domed foot of the stem of the candlestick. Around the bottom a moulding of stiff leaf decoration. This rises to a waist decorated with star flowers. This again rises to a gadrooned cup holding the rest of the stem which in turn is decorated with a band of dots within diamonds leading to a section of eight pointed stars within swirled tranlines. Rising again to two thin bands of star flowers separated with a section of vertical lines. Finally another band of stars within swirling tramlines. The drip pan is original and has a decorative edge. The gilding is original and most importantly the threaded rod holding all together is also original.
