About the Item

An elegant and most decorative pair of French mid 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu candlesticks. Each wonderful candlestick is raised on a square base with cut corners and elevated by toupie shaped supports. The sides of the bases displays central recessed panels with rosettes at the center flanked by laurel branches. The top of the base is surrounded by a Rais de Coeur band while the center showcases four triangular shaped panels. The four panels have richly chased acanthus leaf scrolled designs, which are flanked by narrow corner panels decorated by chandelles. The square central fut has a bottom laurel berried band while above are panels. These side panels have a Rams head at the top overlooking a hanging laurel wreath with a tied bow and bottom tassel. The circular candle cup above is elegant decorated by bottom palmettes and top laurel swaging garlands tied with bows. All original gilding throughout.
