About the Item

Artist and sculptor Maxwell M. Chayat (1909-1982) pair of 1960s mid-century Modern sculptural bronze candle holders. Brutalist or Constructivist abstract bronze sculpture with a flame form two headed candle holders mounted on a wooden plinth. MCM Judaica - Menorah New York Times Obit: Maxwell M. Chayat, whose sculpture and Jewish ritual art objects were displayed in many institutions, died in Englewood (N.J.) Hospital on July 29. Mr. Chayat's work was prominent in private collections and synagogues in Syracuse. His sculpture ''The Sentinel'' stands outside Crouse College on the Syracuse University campus. His work has been shown at the Smithsonian Institution, Cooper Union, the Jewish Museum of New York and the Newark Museum
