About the Item

Pair of Mid-Century Modern Sculptural Ceramic Candleholders, Blue Textured Art A striking pair of mid-century modern French ceramic candleholders dating to the mid-20th century. Hand-crafted in France—presumably in the Vallauris art pottery region—these sculptural pieces were created by the ceramic artist ONET and embody the finest traditions of French studio pottery, art pottery, and modernist ceramic design. Each candleholder is executed in hand-built glazed ceramic with bold cobalt blue, turquoise, white, and heather-gray tones. The richly textured glaze, abstract patterning, and layered surface effects recall the expressive techniques seen in Picasso-era Vallauris, Roger Capron, Gilbert Valentin, and other notable French Riviera ceramists. The architectural rectangular bodies, cylindrical feet, and three flared candle cups create a dramatic sculptural modernist form that works beautifully as functional art. These generously sized candleholders make a statement whether styled on a mantel, dining table, or console. Expertly crafted using hand-painted, kiln-fired, and studio pottery techniques, the pair remains in very good vintage condition with excellent color clarity and surface preservation. The underside of each piece is artist-signed. Measurements: 8 1/2" Wide × 2 3/8" Deep × 6 1/4" High A rare and eye-catching pair of French mid-century ceramic candleholders—ideal for collectors of studio pottery, lovers of French modernist ceramics, and designers seeking striking decorative objects in rich blue palettes.
