About the Item
Striking five-light ceramic candleholder produced by S:t Eriks Lervarufabriker, Sweden, during the 1930s. A rare piece from the early Swedish Art Deco period, it features the company’s iconic copper oxide glaze — a signature innovation by John Rudholm in 1928. The glaze’s unique chemical composition creates a beautiful mottled effect in shifting tones of deep green and black, enhancing the sculptural quality of the linear form.
Decorated with stylized shell and diagonal relief motifs, the candleholder rests on petite feet and accommodates five taper candles. The underside bears the S:t Eriks stamp used between 1929 and 1937, prior to the company’s acquisition by Upsala Ekeby. A true collector’s item that bridges functional design and ceramic artistry from a significant chapter in Swedish decorative arts history.
