About the Item

This is a beautiful and imposing antique Sicilian decorative carving, known as a "Palm Holder" (Portapalma). This type of religious and decorative object was used in noble palazzi and private chapels across Sicily, primarily to hold blessed palm fronds or other intricate floral or shell arrangements. Dating to the late 18th or early 19th century, this piece showcases the rich Baroque and Rococo influences prevalent in Sicilian decorative arts. It features a bold, sculptural design, hand-carved in wood: The piece centers on a dramatically shaped, generously sized gilded urn or vase form, detailed with a flared rim and set upon a sculpted pedestal and square base. The entire surface is covered in its original, vibrant gold leaf gilding. The gold has a rich, warm patina with expected wear, showing minor losses and a lovely, subtle craquelure that is highly desirable in authentic antique pieces. Presence: Its heavy gilding and commanding form make it an exceptional statement piece, perfect for adding high-impact Italian elegance to a console table, library shelf, or displayed as a standalone sculpture. It can also be easily converted to a unique lamp base. they are in original condition
