About the Item

An exceptional mahogany tall case clock by well known Boston clockmaker Aaron Willard Jr (1783-1864). This clock features an arched bonnet with fretwork, full corner columns with brass capitals, and three brass ball spire finials with Greek key decoration, over a glass door, opening to a hand painted iron dial with Roman numerals, faintly signed Aaron Willard Jr, along with a seconds hand, and decorative painted corner spandrels, surmounted by moon phase mechanism in the arch of the dial. The waist door opens to reveal its original red painted weights, a brass pendulum, and most importantly, a Paul Revere printed instruction label with the name Aaron Willard Jr, Boston. The waist door is flanked by reeded corner quarter columns with brass capitals, and the case is supported by splayed French feet. The clock has an eight day brass movement, and dates to the early 19th century, professionally serviced, and is in very good working condition, with minor paint losses on the dial, as well as craquelure, other minor imperfections and light wear commensurate with age and use. Includes a winding key. A wonderful example of Boston clockmaker craftsmanship! Dimensions: Approximately 100 in H x 19.75 in W x 10 in D. Ref: 14622
