A Very Fine French 19th Century Louis XVI style ormolu-mounted amaranth, tulipwood, sycamore and parquetry pedestal "Régulateur de Parquet" Clock, after the model attributed to Jean-Henri Riesener, surmounted by a cloud-form case cast with three Putti suspending garlands, centred by a white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, on a spreading socle with ribbon-hung garlands, above the square tapering pedestal headed by a laurel wreath beneath an Apollo mask, above scrolling foliage centered by a flower-filled urn, the sides with lozenge parquetry panels, on four paw-cast feet above a shaped plinth centered by a foliate wreath, on toupie feet. The bronze mounts bear the casting stamp "L. KAHN". The works by Samuel Marti - Stamped on back "Medaille D'Or - Paris 1900". Circa: 1900.
This clock is an antique copy of the celebrated model made circa 1785 and attributed to Jean-Henri Riesener, now in the Louvre (cat. C.Dr., No 185) illustrated in Pierre Verlet, Les Bronzes Dorés Français du XVIIIe Siècle, Picard, 1999, pp. 116 and 384.
Léon Kahn was a Parisian bronzier supplying finely chased ormolu and gilt-bronze castings after models of some of the great 18th century ébénistes like Jean Henri Riesener, Guillaume Benneman and Pierre-Philippe Thomire to renown local cabinet makers working in Paris during the last quarter of the 19th century and early 20th century. Many of Kahn's pieces bear the stamp "L.Kahn" on the underside. Kahn's furnishings have been offered at international auction houses and have been highly regarded by antique dealers, collectors and auction experts alike.
The firm of Samuel Marti et Cie.(1870–1890) was a renowned French clockmaker based in Paris during the second half of the 1800s. Samuel Marti established his business in 1841 in Montbéliard, in Doubs, a department in northeast France that was the birthplace of many of the most prestigious clockmakers.
Marti exhibited his clocks regularly at expositions in Paris, where he won a Mention of Honour in 1839, a Bronze Medal in 1860, a Silver Medal in 1889, and several Gold Medals (1841, 1851, 1852, 1900). Marti collaborated with another two celebrated French clockmakers: Roux and Japy Frères.

Kahn
Anita Kahn was born in Jersey City on February 23, 1920, the daughter of Morris and Pauline Goretsky, Russian immigrants. Anita's father was a dry goods salesman and her mother was a seamstress. She met her future husband, Arthur Edward Kahn, who became a prominent New York dentist, on a blind date. His father had been a candy store owner, and his mother a housewife. After serving on an Air Force base in Texas during the Second World War, Anita and Arthur moved to Manhattan, where he began his dental practice. Anita had been an art student at Temple University and during the 50s, she resumed her studies at The New School for Social Research as a student of Moses Soyer, Richard Pousette-Dart and Anthony Toney. This rekindled interest in the arts led in the following decades to Anita and Arthur becoming art collectors and patrons of the arts. Anita was known for her beauty, flair for dressing, acumen, and her sharp wit.

A Model of Jean Henri Riesener (Received Master in 1768) executed in 1785. (Inv. OA 5501 in Louvre Museum). 19th century. This fine and sumptuous “Regulateur de Pendule” presents a fine amaranth. Of Sycamore oeuil de vermeuil, ebony and buis stringing marquetry. The base and the gaine are decorated with diamond shapes. The hours are inscribed in Roman numerals and the munutes in Arabic. It takes place in a magnificent gilt décor of three winged children playing with garlands on clouds. The regulator is enriched with a delicate garniture of bronze. The dial and each panel are framed by an elegant frieze of palms and pearls. The top of the gaine is enhanced with a frieze of palms and ovums, foliages and garlands of flowers. Each corner is ornated with fleurons. The front of the gaine is embellished by an Apollo mask (Sun Symbol) and each side with laurel crowns. Under the mask the cartouche is decorated by a stylized vase of flowers.
Folliated scrolls, flowers, garlands, cornucopias and musical instruments such as a harp (Apollo Reference) The cherubs are underlined by pearls, scrolls of Acanthus Leaves and garlands dawning out in foliages, framed with ropes until the lions feet. The feet rest on a base ornated with fleurons and foliages with buds of flowers ending in four conical feet with acanthus leaves.
With André-Charles Boulle (1642-1732) and Charles Cressent (1685-1768), Riesener was arguably one of the three greatest French ébénistes of the 18th century.
