About the Item

A Swedish painted wood grandfather clock from the 19th century. This tall antique floor clock from Sweden has a squared cap raised bonnet which crowns its round-shaped head, that houses the original metal face and movement (with hand painted numbers and decorative metal hands) set behind glass. The soft, raindrop shaped body, is accentuated with upwardly-curved carved-trim molding about the neck and waist. There is a small glass window set within the door, and note that the door pull is not original, but a later addition. The body is supported on a stacked base that is slightly raised from the ground upon shallow, bracket style feet. The clock has both early and later paint. This clock will make a wonderful decorative object. Though it retains its original face and movement, it is not currently in working condition. However, for an additional cost, the clock can be quartzed to keep perfect time. If done, a new quartz battery would be added behind the face. The original hands (which are too heavy to carry the quartz movement) would be changed to black hands, similar in style. The clock would then chime (the chime can be turned off even though the sound is quite delightful. A pendulum selected to work with the quartz movement would be added behind the glass opening. This 19th century Swedish long-case clock stands over 7.5 feet in height.
