About the Item

French Belle Époque Mahogany and Brass Inlaid Mantel Clock by Samuel Marti, circa 1900 A finely crafted French mantel clock from the Belle Époque period, attributed to the esteemed maker Samuel Marti, Paris, circa 1900. The arched case is executed in rich mahogany, accented with brass stringing and floral inlay to the front panel. The sides are adorned with finely cast lion mask ring handles in gilt bronze. Raised on four brass ogee bracket feet, the case presents a classic yet opulent silhouette. The circular white enamel dial displays black Arabic numerals and is fitted with ornate pierced gilt hands. Set behind a convex glass door within a polished brass bezel. The dial includes twin winding holes and a clean surface free from damage. The rear reveals an eight-day pendulum movement stamped with the Marti Medaille d’Or 1900 mark, striking the hours and half-hours on a coiled gong. The movement is accessed via a pierced and hinged brass soundplate. A handsome and functional timepiece, retaining excellent colour and patina. Dimensions: Height: 9.45 in (24 cm) Width: 7.5 in (19 cm) Depth: 5.5 in (14 cm) Condition: Very good condition overall. Light surface wear consistent with age. Fully working and complete.
