About the Item

A French Charles X period gilt bronze figural mantel clock circa 1825. Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont and Paris, c. 1825. The sculptural group represents an allegory of navigation or Hope and features a seated classical female figure leaning on a cornucopia base with her other arm resting upon an anchor set on a shell. A rudder or oar stands vertically beside her. The clock case and sculptural group are raised on a rectangular base, adorned with three large wreathes in relief on the front. The clock movement is stamped B.P.&F. An identical clock is part of the collections of the Dallas Museum of Art, Texas (Object #1995.56). These Neoclassical clocks were produced during the Bourbon restoration era ( 1814-1830) and are known for their elaborate sculptural surmounts. This clock retains its original gilding and comes with the original pendulum, but no key. The clock movement has not been tested and is being sold 'as is'.
