About the Item

Fine French Ormolu table clock featuring a beautifully decorated base with cherub and classical scenes resting on an ormolu outswept base with floral decoration.. The base is mounted with a spectacular cart and heavenly cherubs pulled by two goats, the driver is encouraging his team. The dial encompasses the spokes of the wheel and has a raised gilded chapter ring with individual enamel Roman numerals and original gilded hands. Eight day movement striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell signed Japy Freres. C.1870 Japy Freres were widely regarded as the leading French makers of the day located in the town of Beacourt in Eastern France founded in 1806 and ceased trading in the late 1930’s
