About the Item

Pendule Clock from the Time of Louis XVI by Piolaine of Paris An exceptionally elegant Pendule clock from the time of Louis XVIII. Signed “Piolaine à Paris,” the work of a renowned clockmaker listed in Tardy’s Dictionary of French Clockmakers. The original, unaltered movement is suspended by silk threads and strikes the hour and half-hour on an antique bell. An 18th-century Pendule clock, a perfect example of its era, of great finesse and elegance; a rare model. The case is made of Carrara and black marble with gilt bronze mounts and is decorated with Wedgwood-style bisque panels. The movement is suspended by silk threads. The enameled dial bears the signature “Piolaine à Paris.” Michel-François Piolaine became a master clockmaker in 1787.
