About the Item

George III style bracket clock signed "Thomas Rofs Hull," it's highly probable referring to the renowned Hull clockmaker Thomas Ross (or Thos Ross), who was active in Hull, UK, from 1791 to 1806. The dome top clock surmounted by a brass carrying handle and the front door with brass trim. The clock with brass fish scale panels with silk fabric backing. Arched silvered dial with Roman numerals signed Tho. Rofs Hull, strike/silent selector above XII. A heavy brass pendulum is suspended from the rod. The whole is resting on brass bracket feet. Comes with winding key. Comes with a secondary small key assumedly for the front door but does not work. Comes with a conforming more than likely original mahogany wall bracket. Dimensions: Clock: 11 1/4" L, 7 7/8" D and 17 1/4" H to top of handle Bracket: 8 3/4" D, 12 5/8" W and 15" H Condition: The clock is in running condition striking the hours on a bell. There are some veneer repairs, sunning, veneer loss at the latch, lifted veneer at the dome top, minor fraying to fabric lining behind the fish scale motif. The wall bracket with stable age cracks. Presently the clock strikes the hour - one hour behind and would need adjustment. Runs within two minutes of actual time. There is no escutcheon plate (may or may not be missing). Few minor marks to face. No other features have been tested. Please see photos for details of condition.
