About the Item

An impressive French 19th century Neoclassical Lyre-form clock with jeweled pendulum. Amazing quality white and yellow marble 19th century French Lyre-Form clock mounted all over with gilt bronze leaves and swags, draping garlands and Acanthus leaves, and sur-mounted by a gilt bronze Classical mask surrounded by sunbeams. Leading down from the Classical mask are gilt bronze lyre strings, which join to the pendulum ring of brilliant crys-tals surrounding an enamel dial with Arabic numerals as well as polychromed hand-painted garlands of flowers. The dial is signed “Lenoir Paris” Both the lyre and the finely molded ormolu sunburst surmounting the clock are symbols of Apollo, the sun god who oversees the passage of time and also refers to the Sun King, Louis XIV. The white Carrara and yellow marble body is set upon an oval base over four gilt bronze toupie feet, the clock is further adorned by draping garlands and laurel wreaths. Engraved Paris and Numbered 1686 on the movement. Louis XVI Style Circa 1860 Original gilding In working conditions Unusual size 76 cm / 30 inch height.
