This attractive late 19th-century mantel clock by H. Bright of Leamington is an elegant example of Victorian taste, combining richly gilded bronze with beautifully painted Sèvres-style porcelain panels. English clockmakers of the period frequently adopted French decorative influences, and this piece demonstrates how effectively the two traditions could be brought together.
At its centre, a circular dial framed in gilt displays Roman numerals and painted cherubs, setting a playful yet refined tone. Below and around the dial, porcelain plaques in turquoise and white are decorated with pastoral figures, putti, and floral ornament, all executed with delicate brushwork.
