About the Item

This sculptural desk clock is a refined example of 1970s Spanish industrial modernism, produced by FASE and conceived with a strong architectural sensibility. The design moves beyond the purely functional, using form, surface, and proportion to create an object that reads as both a timepiece and a small-scale metal sculpture. The clock is formed from a single continuous ribbon of metal, precisely bent into a sweeping loop that functions simultaneously as base and support. The exterior surface is finished in a finely textured matte silver tone, while the inner curve is polished to a mirror-like chrome finish. This contrast between texture and reflection gives the piece depth and visual movement, allowing it to interact subtly with light and its surrounding space. Positioned at the apex of the arc is a rectangular mirrored dial with bold black Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9. The minimalist face is fitted with graphic black hands and a slender red seconds hand, a characteristic FASE detail that introduces a quiet sense of rhythm and precision. The discreet “fase” signature appears beneath the central axis, with “Made in Spain” printed above the 6, confirming its original manufacture. The reverse retains its original movement housing. The base is embossed with the SUMSA logo, indicating that this standard FASE model was later branded for corporate gifting and professional environments. Balanced, architectural, and unmistakably modern, this clock remains a strong example of FASE’s design language during the 1970s.
